This week (week 7) at the RULH Middle School we are administering the Student Assessment Survey to all the classes in the building. All the homeroom teachers are participating and helping with this process, which makes this easier for everyone. Because of the Christmas Concert, we have had many schedule changes and hope now that the concert is over - we can complete all the surveys by Friday morning of this week.
I did have a concern regarding the fact that I am a librarian and I do not have a "class" per say to survey. I am waiting on Jenni's directions here for my assignment regarding this matter. There are many other coaches who do not have a "homeroom" class so this is an issue for several of us.
There is a lot of reading to be done during weeks six, seven and eight. I have read a lot about Project-Based Learning strategies and identify with that style. I taught 22 years in the Language Arts Classroom before attaining my library certification and did many project based activities such as our Ellis Island Unit. I asked my students what they knew about "Angel Island" and the questions began followed by research conducted by groups of students. The end product was a brochure that the students created to entice tourists to visit Angel Island and or Ellis Island. This unit included technology as we used Microsoft Publisher to create our brochures and we used laptops that were on a cart.
